The 2018 SDR PGA TOUR Play Day for the WGC Mexico Championship turned out to be the most successful Club Event at Sierra del Rio Golf Course in my tenure here as Head Golf Professional! A total of 34 entries made up the field for this fun Event in which each amateur player drew a PGA TOUR Player and teamed up their Net Score with their respective player’s Final Round Score in Mexico. A total of $680 in Golf Shop Credit was awarded to the top seven finishers. SDR golfers could play their rounds on any day Friday-Sunday, when playing by the USGA Rules of Golf and having an attest to their score.
Over the weekend, winds were high, but so were the temperatures in the mid-70’s. Kenny Labree fired the low net round of 66 and was able to secure a third place finish with Sergio Garcia as his partner who shot a 70. Jerry Traweek had the luck of the draw getting Justin Thomas as his partner who had the low PGA TOUR round of 64, and was coupled with a solid net score of 71 by Traweek who was able to tie for first place with Bob Speer and Alex Noren. Other prize winners of the Event were: Bill Sisk; Mike Tobin; Mark Boyle; and Jack Whitehouse. For full-field results and Golf Shop Credit prize money, please see the attachment.
The next 2018 SDR PGA TOUR Play Day will be for THE MASTERS on April 6-8. And, don’t forget about the next SDR ACES TOUR Event on Saturday, March 24 at 10:00am shotgun start. Participation in all of our Events here at Sierra del Rio Golf Course continues to be on the rise, making for a fun and exciting competitive atmosphere combined with good food and spirits and social festivities in the Bar. Let’s keep the good times rollin’!
