Contrary to rumors, Sierra del Rio Golf course is open and always has been. There was a limited closure of about 2 weeks between December 24, 2013 and January 15, 2013 when some course maintenance and management restructure was being performed. Not sure who or how the rumor started that Sierra del Rio Golf course was closed, but as a resident and involved community member I can assure you that the course is open and spectacular.
Woke up to Action 7 News talking about the big snow storm with video of cars crashing and freeways shut down on Saturday morning, walked outside my house on the Sierra del Rio Golf Course to a sunny mild morning for a nice round of golf.
A few brave friends from Los Alamos made the trip despite the 20″ of snow still piling up in Los Alamos. We played 27 holes in great playing conditions with no waiting. Going south to Sierra del Rio for winter golf is more like spring golf. Course is in great shape. Thanks to SDR staff for keeping the course in great shape!
What a weekend for golf! We had several groups fro the north, they really enjoyed the clear, sunny weather. Greens and fairways are in great shape, add that to the weather and it made for a perfect outing! Some groups stayed in the casita rentals at Sierra del Rio so they just jumped into the cart, played 27 holes then enjoyed happy hour stories about the putt that got away, then sauntered back to the casita. It went so well they decided to run the same play on Saturday! Good fun had by all…
